Gustav Flecke-Giammarco

Gustav has over 15 years of cross-border experience in handling institutional and ad hoc arbitrations. He acts as counsel and arbitrator in complex disputes, often involving multiple parties and high stakes. Gustav has conducted proceedings in French, Italian, English, and German. His track record includes cases under the ICC, DIS, ICDR, VIAC, SCC, FAI, CAM, CEAC, GMAA, WIPO, and Swiss Rules. He has served as president, co-arbitrator, sole arbitrator, emergency arbitrator, mediator, and legal expert in more than 45 cases seated across Europe. Gustav’s main areas of specialization include construction and engineering, post-M&A, international sales, distribution, energy (including oil and gas), and infrastructure projects.

Gustav is a member of the German bar and is a business mediator (MuCDR). He was appointed as President of the Arbitrator Nominations Commission of ICC Germany and Co-Chair of the Bilateral Italian-German Arbitration Group (AiA/ArbIt/CAM/DIS). Gustav has co-edited The DIS Arbitration Rules–An Article-by-Article Commentary (Kluwer Law International, 2020) and Schiedsverfahren in der Unternehmenspraxis (Schäffer-Poeschl, 2024). Gustav is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of International Arbitration. He guest lectures at the University of Roma Tre and often speaks at international conferences.
